About Us

Our family has had rats for over 10 years, off and on. We first got rats when we homeschooled, back in late 2003, eventually having 5 male rats: Wally and Templeton, who we got from PetSmart (and were our first two); and then Silvery, Blackie, and Scooby, who we got from a skeezy little pet store (they were destined to be feeder rats, it was pretty much a reptile pet store).

After those rats eventually died (all had died by 2007), we took a break from rats for a few years, as we’d gone through a lot of life changes and the timing wasn’t right. Once things settled back down a bit, we decided that we were excited about the prospect of having rats again, and we got our two girls, Squeaky (aka Sir Squeaks-a-Lot), and Reepacheep.
